Today the DPP has revealed its technology strategy for the year 2019/20. The strategy has a core aim, which is closely aligned to the core purpose of the organisation: To deliver a simpler, more effective, global content supply chain.
“Since its inception, the DPP has been an incredible forum for technical collaboration”, says DPP Head of Delivery and Growth, Rowan de Pomerai, “As our portfolio of technical work grows, it’s important that we communicate clearly how these topics work together towards a common goal. Everything we do at the DPP is designed to deliver practical business benefit to our member companies”.
The new technology strategy brings together a number of existing technical work streams, as well as brand new areas of focus into four central themes:
One of the greatest challenges in media today is versioning and localisation. The DPP will continue to drive and support implementation of IMF for Broadcast and Online, across programmes and advertising, delivering dramatic workflow efficiencies.
Efficient media operations increasingly rely on automation. Good metadata remains key to this, while Artificial Intelligence opens new opportunities. The DPP will help to deliver common workflows to make automation achievable.
The DPP is famous for making file-based delivery a reality. The AS-11 specification family is expanding to new markets and use-cases, and the upcoming DPP Recommendation for Live IP contribution and distribution will support delivery of content in real time.
Video content can be extremely valuable, and media companies are high profile targets for cyber attack. The DPP remains committed to driving continual improvement in standards for cyber security across the whole content supply chain.
